Rams QB Jared Goff quick to point out what a difference a year makes
By Steve Rivera
As training camp gets under way, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff notes the difference between his experience last year, versus this year.
Los Angeles Rams second year quarterback Jared Goff was quick to note some differences between his disastrous first season, and this second one filled with hope and promise. Gone is Jeff Fisher and all that. Enter Sean McVay and, well, all that and so much more.
Indeed, what a difference a year does makes.

If, as it looked last year, that Goff was lost deep in the woods, this year should see some of that forest having cleared, and better days ahead.
At least that’s the game plan on paper at UC Irvine.
As the guy who sits at the top of the Rams depth chart, he is well aware that all eyes are on him. Not just from the media and fans, but from a team who will look to him to deliver beyond the practice field.
“He took more control of how we were working,” said Tavon Austin, courtesy of Myles Simmons at therams.com. “Even when we’re in the huddle, he’s pulling it together.”
Leadership is an area that the second year quarterback will need to find some familiarity with. As his margin of error shrinks, his level of accountability will certainly increase.

Day 1 of training camp saw a combination of both drops and completions. As the trigger-man of an offense that was near the bottom of the National Football League statistically, completing passes to the abundance of weapons now at his disposal will be critical to whatever happens next.
For him, and the Rams.
Most, including Goff himself, will point out that the traditional jump from year one to year two of a quarterback’s career can be something of a moving target. If he has one benefit, it’s the fact that expectations, right or wrong, are reasonably low. If Goff can show progress, the kind requisite of the top overall draft pick chosen to be a franchise type QB, he’ll quickly silence his critics.
For Los Angeles, McVay provides the best opportunity to salvage what looks to still be a questionable pick.
For Goff, this opportunity may not come his way again.
