Who’s the big watch tonight? Rams QB Jared Goff, of course

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff begins his second season in LA tonight. He should know all eyes will be on him.
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff knows all eyes are on him tonight as the wrap comes of the home team in their preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys. Neither Goff nor the Rams can or should take exhibition football lightly given the last time they were on a football field for 16 games.

The second year quarterback with a whopping seven games under his belt as an NFL starter will be the primary topic in all four preseason games. The need for him to be better in every area of his game will be analyzed and then over-analyzed.
0-7 will do that.
Of particular interest will be how the new Sean McVay offense has settled into his young team. Beginning tonight, we’ll get to see how he works with a two tight end set, and a bevy of new offensive weapons headlined by Cooper Kupp, everyone’s pick for All-Everything in Los Angeles.

We will also see if the look of ‘dazed and confused’ has disappeared. Last season, Goff seemed lost in the woods. This year, reports are of a more confident Goff. Someone in control from the locker room to the huddle. While leadership is something he’ll grow into, teammates have been quick to note that among many of the changes from year one to year two.
One thing is for sure, the growth factor from a rookie season to a second season can and usually is big. While it is impossible to imagine any kind of slump in his game, Goff will have benefited from an offseason experience that is more offensive centric. McVay is remarkably charismatic, but his job and primary focus will be turning this would be franchise quarterback around.
No small task, but the addition of someone like Sammy Watkins will help as much as a new head coach.
The Los Angeles Rams did Yeoman’s work in securing a bounty of weapons for Jared Goff. Eventually, he’ll be the one responsible for his own success.
Beginning tonight, it’s all on him.
