3. Nelson Spruce

This time last year, there was a ton of excitement over Nelson Spruce earning one of the spots for the Los Angeles Rams on the roster, despite only appearing in one preseason game, but becoming a fan favorite in the process. It took guts for a team like the Rams to take a risk on a player who only had one preseason game on his resume, but unfortunately things didn’t workout last year since Spruce failed to suit up once during the regular season after dealing with injuries to his knee and calf.

After getting healthy in the offseason, Spruce started off preseason on a hot note by catching six passes against the Dallas Cowboys, but once again, the injury bug caught up with him for the final two weeks. So at the end of the day, the decision on whether Spruce deserved a roster spot for the 2017 season came down to whether he was worth the risk once again after only having two impressive performances in the preseason to base his potential off of.

Los Angeles fans may not be happy over the decision, but from a business perspective, this was clearly the right choice for the organization. For a team that finally has plenty of weapons to work with on offense, the Rams couldn’t afford to give Spruce a roster spot over another young receiver with potential.
