Unfortunately, fan favorite Nelson Spruce was waived by the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday to trim the roster down to 53 players.

With Saturday’s deadline to trim rosters down to 53 players, Los Angeles Rams fans have been anxiously waiting to see if Nelson Spruce would be lucky enough to earn a spot for the second year in a row, despite dealing with an injury over the last few weeks. Unfortunately, Rams fans received the news that many of them expected to hear after the wideout was waived by the team prior to the deadline.

The team site posted a list of players who were part of the roster cuts, and Spruce was one of a few names on the list that Los Angeles fans were hoping not to see. But at the end of the day, the Rams knew the decision to waive Spruce was a move that had to be done due to all of the young talent the team is fortunate to have heading into Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts.

It was one thing to see the Rams take a risk on Spruce last year despite only appearing in one preseason game since their receiving corps wasn’t anything to brag about, but the situation was much different for the team this time around. For a player who technically only has two impressive preseason games to work with on his resume, deep down fans knew the chances of Spruce earning another shot on the 53-man roster was a long one.

On a positive note, as painful as the Spruce news is for some fans, at least the Rams have plenty of reasons to be excited over this current group of receivers. All of a sudden, Jared Goff has plenty of reliable weapons to work with thanks to big-name receivers that include Sammy Watkins and Cooper Kupp.
