Despite the disappointing loss in Week 2 to the Washington Redskins, the Los Angeles Rams should be pleased with how good Todd Gurley looked.

When it came to the frustrations the Los Angeles Rams experienced throughout the 2016 season, watching Todd Gurley fail to record a single 100-yard rushing game was right near the top of that list. And even though there were some concerns from the team’s 46-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts in which he averaged just 2.1 yards per carry, Gurley’s play against the Washington Redskins on Sunday is the perfect example of how special he can truly be.

Not only did Gurley finish the game with 88 rushing yards on 16 carries (5.5 yards per carry) to go along with a touchdown on the ground, but the running back was effective as a receiver as well. By adding another trip into the end zone while finishing with three caches for 48 yards to give him 136 yards from the line of scrimmage on the day, Gurley made a statement by showing he’s ready to be the running back Los Angeles needs him to be to take this offense to the next level.

Everybody knows the Rams were one of the biggest jokes on offense last season after finishing dead last in the league by only averaging 14 points per game, but through two games, it’s clear that is no longer the case. Thanks to the team making Sean McVay the youngest head coach in NFL history, Los Angeles looks like a completely different unit when compared to a year ago thanks to the offensive mastermind, including Gurley.

Hopefully, the 100-yard performance will eventually come in the ground game, but the important factor is Gurley has been doing whatever he’s asked to help this offense succeed by already making three trips into the end zone in two games. And with a favorable matchup against the San Francisco 49ers scheduled for Thursday, here’s to hoping the early success continues for Gurley as a key member to this Rams’ offense.
