Rams fans remember how successful Goff was against Saints as a rookie in 2016
By Dan Parzych
Despite the Los Angeles Rams ending up on the losing end, Jared Goff did find some success against the New Orleans Saints in 2016 as a rookie.
On Sunday, Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams will face one of their biggest challenges from the 2017 season when hosting the New Orleans Saints in a battle between two playoff-caliber teams looking to continue making their mark in the NFC. After only winning four games all of last year, Goff is one of the main reasons why the Rams are currently 7-3 heading into Week 12, and even though a matchup against one of the top defenses in the league with the Saints gives Sean McVay plenty of reasons to worry, let’s not forget what happened last year when the former No. 1 pick faced this team.

In what ended up being his second career starter after taking over the job for Case Keenum, Goff came out firing against New Orleans when these teams coincidentally met at the end of last November by tossing three touchdown passes in the first half. And even though those would end up being the only touchdowns thrown by Goff in the 49-21 loss, this was arguably the first positive sign for Los Angeles when it came to knowing they made the right decision at quarterback.
Yes, the Saints’ defense is completely different from this time last year, but that doesn’t mean Goff isn’t capable of having another strong performance to help the Rams remain in good position to win the NFC West title over the Seattle Seahawks. Plus, after the offense fell apart following the opening drive during last weekend’s game against Minnesota, Goff understands this is the perfect opportunity for Los Angeles to redeem themselves by showing they do in fact have what it takes to be in the conversation of serious contenders in the NFC.

Plus, when looking at all of the injuries the Saints’ defense is dealing with along the fact that the Washington Redskins were able to put up 31 points on the unit a week ago, the Rams could very well end up winning this game to earn their eighth win of the season. It’s certainly not going to be easy, but if it does end up happening for the Rams, chances are it’s going to be a result of a big game from their beloved quarterback in Goff.
