Saints running back duo of Ingram, Kamara could mean trouble for Rams
By Dan Parzych
The defense of the Los Angeles Rams will have quite the work cut out for them in Week 12 when facing the powerful offense of the New Orleans Saints.
As bad as it sounds, last weekend was a major wakeup call for the Los Angeles Rams when it comes to seeing how they stack up against some of the other serious contenders in the NFL after Sean McVay‘s team was flat-out embarrassed by the Minnesota Vikings. And with an upcoming matchup in Week 12 against the red-hot New Orleans Saints, the Rams will face another tough test against another strong playoff-caliber team.

After a disappointing 0-2 start, the Saints appeared to be heading towards another season finishing below .500 before emerging as one of the hottest teams in the NFL by riding an eight-game winning streak. Believe it or not, improvement on the defensive side of the football has been one of the main reasons why New Orleans has been able to put together that impressive win streak, but also the surprise duo of Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara on offense deserves plenty of credit as well.
The Saints made a surprise move back in October when they traded Adrian Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals when considering all of the hype surrounding the signing in the offseason, but at the end of the day, this move seemed to work out well for both parties, especially New Orleans. Instead of Peterson earning carries in the backfield, Ingram and Kamara have combined for 14 trips into the end zone through 10 games this season, and could cause all sorts of problems for the Rams’ defense on Sunday.

Despite how impressive Los Angeles has looked at times on the defensive side of the football this year, stopping the run has been an issue at times for Wade Phillips’ unit, as they rank near the bottom of the league by allowing 123.3 rushing yards per game (28th). When taking this into consideration, the Rams better be prepared for Ingram and Kamara to see plenty of action since this is going to give the Saints their best chance of increasing that winning streak to nine games. Otherwise, there’s going to be more reasons for concern when it comes to whether Los Angeles can in fact compete with some of the best in the NFC, so here’s to hoping the defense comes through by limiting Ingram and Kamara as much as they can.
