Goff, Gurley sitting in top 10 for Pro Bowl votes shows how far Rams’ offense has come
By Dan Parzych
Seeing Jared Goff and Todd Gurley high on the list of votes for this year’s Pro Bowl shows how far the offense of the Los Angeles Rams has come.
Last season, the Los Angeles Rams were one of the most frustrating teams to watch with the team ranking dead last in the NFL by only averaging 14 points per game. Even after a 3-1 start, things fell apart real fast for the Rams after losing 11 of their final 12 games, making it clear the offense needed plenty of improvements in the offseason since they already had solid pieces in Jared Goff and Todd Gurley to work with.

While Goff received plenty of criticism as a rookie after failing to win a single game in seven starts in the second half of the 2016 season, no member of Los Angeles took more heat than Gurley when looking at how much of a hit his production took. Expectations were high for Gurley for his sophomore campaign after taking home Offensive Rookie of the Year honors the season before, but thanks to a poor offensive line along with the Rams trailing in most games, the former Georgia star’s second year was a complete disaster. In fact, things were so bad for Gurley, the running back went the entire year without recording a single 100-yard rushing game.
This time around, the circumstances are much different for Goff and Gurley, as Los Angeles ranks near the top of the league with their high-powered offense thanks to players buying in early to what Sean McVay was selling as head coach. Clearly, having an offensive minded coach like McVay instead of Jeff Fisher has helped Goff and Gurley elevate their games to a whole new level on the Rams’ offense. And if it wasn’t for the team taking a risk on making McVay the youngest head coach in NFL history at the time of the hiring in the offseason, it’s safe to assume Los Angeles wouldn’t be in this current position sitting at 8-3 as the No. 3 seed in the NFC heading into their Week 13 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

To top it off, both Goff and Gurley currently rank in the top 10 for votes when it comes to the 2018 Pro Bowl, an accomplishment that nobody would have expected a few months ago. After all of the struggles this team dealt with a year ago, it seems to have been well worth the wait for the Rams when seeing how much it’s paid in 2017 on offense with this dynamic duo that has the potential to be one of the best for years to come.
