It’s not uncommon to find teams who get caught looking ahead to a big opponent the following week. While the Los Angeles Rams have a big one with the Chicago Bears in Week 14, Week 13 has them playing their NFC West rival in Detroit.

Credit the Rams for being good week-to-week by avoiding both the look-ahead and the letdown.

In games preceding arguably the two biggest Los Angeles has played this season, the Rams beat the Green Bay Packers 29-27 and the Seattle Seahawks 36-31. While the Rams would lose to the New Orleans Saints after the game with the Packers, and beat the Chiefs after beating the Seahawks in neither of those two games did they look to be distracted by what was coming up.

Head coach Sean McVay has done a tremendous job keeping his team focused and on point. The good mix of veterans and younger players has meshed into a group who has remained steady in close games.

Also worth considering is when their bye week happened on the schedule. The game against the Chiefs may go down as the biggest in the NFL’s 2018 regular season, and it’s also a game where Gurley hurt an ankle. The rest for him and the Rams as a whole after playing 11 straight came at a great time as they prepare for the last five games of the season.
