Whether you like the Patriots or absolutely loathe them, Super Bowl LIII may be the last chance fans get at witnessing a genuine and bonafide dynasty.

Owner Robert Kraft, his favorite son Tom Brady, and head coach Bill Belichick are as close to a living and breathing Holy Trinity as you will get in sports. Given this last offseason and this 2018 regular season, the cracks in the facade as reported by the sports media may indicate that the sun is setting once and for all.

Juxtapose that with what’s happening with the Los Angeles Rams, and the story that may be told on the field of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium In Atlanta will be a remarkable arc.

Growing up, my earliest recollection of a dynasty was the Pittsburgh Steelers, followed up by the San Francisco 49ers. As great as those two franchises were, what happened in New England is truly special given the way business is done in the NFL.

Atlanta may be the last stand for the excellence they’ve provided the league for a lot of years now.

Brady and Belichick could very well be writing this last chapter. And while the ageless wonder at quarterback looks to be playing a bit longer, the cast of characters that surround him may be looking at historic-like changes.

Then again, maybe not.

With perhaps the ultimate last hurrah, is this the game where win or lose, Belichick decides he’s had enough?

Maybe this game is the last where we see the Patriots through that familiar championship lens.
