3. Previous work with Bengals
Before the Redskins brought Gruden on board as their head coach in 2014, one of the main reasons behind the team’s decision was due to his previous success as offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals.

While it was certainly frustrating to see the Bengals fail to earn a single playoff win during the Marvin Lewis era, Gruden certainly deserves plenty of credit for helping Cincinnati earn trips to the postseason in each of his three years as offensive coordinator from 2011-13.
What made this run even more impressive for Gruden is Andy Dalton and A.J. Green were both rookies during his first year at offensive coordinator in 2011, showing just how much of an impact he can make with the right weapons.
Gruden may have struggled to find similar success in Washington since he only earned one trip to the playoffs in 2015 when the team happened to win the NFC East, but also the argument can be made the organization is partially to blame.
In comparison to the Redskins, the Rams would put Gruden in a much better position to succeed when looking at the weapons he would get to work with on offense, and it’s not even worth trying to debate.
