Robert Woods will continue as the LA Rams most underrated receiver in 2020

The LA Rams wide receivers kept the team afloat in 2019, ensuring that the team would not suffer a losing record. WR Robert Woods posted very good numbers in 2019, recording over 1,000 yards. The LA Rams senior wide receiver will only get better as his career progresses. He is a valuable cog in the Rams passing attack.

Only four other current Rams players have spent more time in the NFL than Woods. He turned 28 years old in April. Like a fine wine, Woods seems to be getting better.

The Buffalo Bills selected him in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played four seasons in the bitter cold and lake effect snows, where he caught 203 passes for 2451 yards with 12 touchdowns. Woods entered free agency in 2017.

The LA Rams offered him a five-year deal worth $34 million in March 2017, according to spotrac.com, a bargain price by today’s standards. One year later, he agreed to a restructured deal to give the Rams more salary-cap space. This year, Woods is projected to earn $8.175 million this season in salary, roster bonus, and restructured contract money.

Has Woods’s on-field production justified his contract? He has better numbers since arriving at the LA Rams than with the Buffalo Bills. As a Rams receiver, Woods has caught 232 passes for 3134 yards with 13 touchdowns. Wonder what those numbers will be after this season?

Woods production is very close to Cooper Kupp’s production in 2019. He caught 90 passes for 1134 yards and Kupp caught 94 passes for 1161 yards. Kupp played one more game than Woods.

Woods might very likely be quarterback Jared Goff’s favorite target. He threw to Woods 139 times, which is five more times than to Kupp. Will that change under the new offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell heading into the 2020 offseason workouts? Will his role change with the addition of rookie wide receiver Van Jefferson and pass-catching tight end Brycen Hopkins?

Probably not too much because playmakers win games for you. Woods has averaged 12.8 yards per reception for his career. He moves the chains with each catch. Why wouldn’t you get the ball into his hands?
