LA Rams QB Goff’s path from good to great happens in 2020

Goff diagnosing and delivering
Did you know that Jared Goff actually shaved time from his delivery in 2019? He did. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The Rams offense has so many weapons to hurt defenses. Opposing defenses got faster, taking away the time to throw the ball from Goff.

They did so by becoming much faster on the edge, by blitzing up the middle, and by overwhelming the Rams struggling offensive line last season. It was even more effective than it should have been because the Rams continued to run the same ineffective plays. Not only predictable but plays that were designed to attack the deep center field of the defense. Those types of plays are the most time-consuming plays of the playbook. So the faster the defense became, the slower the offense responded. Ugh!
Goff timing about to get even better
Now it’s Goff’s turn to take time away from defenses. He is a polished quarterback, a dead-on accurate passer who has delivered the pass to receivers with uncanny strength and accuracy. Just check out this video analyzing his play and fundamentals. Goff bashing has run its course. It’s time to set the record straight.
The reality is that Goff picked his spots to throw to anticipating receivers to get there, but they didn’t arrive in time. The result? A quarterback doing the same things suddenly is less effective. The Rams can fix this and are doing exactly that. The cure? Stop trying to run the same plays with differing personnel against differing defenses. Take back the element of surprise.
