6 hot takeaways for LA Rams from HBO Hard Knocks: LA -episode 4

Takeaway V – Just how good will the LA Rams secondary be this year?
As we’ve heard all along, the LA Rams have added some noteworthy talent via the 2020 NFL Draft in the form of Terrell Burgess and Jordan Fuller. But they are not the elite talent of this secondary. They are young rookies who will earn their way onto the football and garner some defensive snaps.
The real work will be done by others this season. Look to All-Pro defensive back Jalen Ramsey to lead the group, teamed up with veteran safety John Johnson. The Rams will have both Troy Hill and Darious Williams as rotational cornerbacks. They have safety Taylor Rapp to slide up into the box or play center field. The Rams will be very very good this year.
Deep defensive secondary
Even after the Rams have cut CB Donte Deayon, CB Adonis Alexander, S Jake Gervase, CB JuJu Hughes, CB Dayan Lake (Ghanwoloku), and CB Tyrique McGhee, the team’s roster is loaded. The team has CB David Long Jr. S Nick Scott, DB Terrell Burgess, and S Jordan Fuller backing up the unit. And the team will most likely be signing two or more defensive backs to the team’s practice squad.
While the Rams have listed Terrell Burgess among the safeties, the needs of the team would make me believe that the team sees him in more of a cornerback/defensive back. And in that role, the Rams have two cornerbacks and two safeties remaining on the roster. That’s a very strong secondary, with the potential to be one of the NFL’s best.
