Can Rams survive no playoffs for a second time?

If the Packers are no more generous than other teams have been, the Rams must face the other outcome of this weekend. Of course, they can dictate their own fate. If the Rams win, they are in the playoffs. If the Rams do not advance, they go home. Not to the comforts of home, no. The Rams will retreat back to the haunted halls of painful ‘what if’s?’ that haunt any team that is ridiculously close to post-season play, but fails to achieve it.

And with that, comes a host of painful replays in the minds of fans, players and coaches. The host of reviewing each week, each game, each play. In an effort to improve for next season, all will scramble to uncover the cause of this year’s inability to claim a playoff berth. Did the Rams need more blocking? Did the defense play zone at the wrong times? Did the team become too predictable?

As that happens, lines may be crossed. Rather than examine the process that placed the team in this situation, short cuts will be taken. Shortcuts to blame a player or players, rather than examine and treat the process that failed the player or players. And if the process results in blaming a player, nothing gets fixed. That leads to repeating the same outcomes, year in and year out. The Rams mortgaged their salary cap and draft picks to compete now.

Still, the Rams will need to regroup once more. When the dust settles, the Rams may face the realization that many players who have contributed heartily to the teams success will no longer play in a Rams Jersey, will never know the roar of fans cheering for them in SoFi Stadium, and will not return to join the team in the 2021 NFL season. Here are seven who may be playing their last game for the LA Rams. Who might they be?
