The LA Rams built the crown jewel stadium of the NFL. A stadium with roots into tomorrow and today. And for the 2020 season, not a single fan was permitted to attend a single Rams football game. Anticipation, anticipation is makin’ me late, is keepin’ me waitin’. These are the opening lyrics for Anticipation by Carly Simon, a song she wrote for a 1971 release about waiting for Cat Stevens to show up for dinner.
Ah yes, anticipating the home games in 2020 that fans must now hope to witness firsthand in 2021. The LA Rams played to empty seats and still managed to set an impressive 6-2 record at home. That is on pace for a 12-4 season, and that would have been good enough to compete for a top seed in the NFC.
Of course, the Rams only played to a 4-4 record on the road. That set them up for a 10-6 record, the sixth-seed in the NFC Playoffs, and getting as far as the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. Now, having fallen short of the Super Bowl, the team must reload and start another NFL season with new hope and optimism.
Folks, it will be worth the wait. A year ago, the team seemed to be in much worse shape. The running game was very bad. The offensive line was even worse. The defense was projected to lose four key contributors to free agency, and the team was coming off of a 9-7 season. And yet, after free agency, the 2020 NFL Draft, and a few subtle personnel moves, the Rams proved very resilient in 2020.
Now the LA Rams are coming off a very solid season, a year where both veterans and rookies alike stood up and contributed. What will this season hold? No doubt much of the same. That means a thrilling draft, surprising personnel moves, and a lot of expertise added to the coaching staff. Will it be worth it?
Let’s put it this way. The Rams are doing everything possible to win the Super Bowl in 2021. And SoFi Stadium is the ideal site for a championship run to originate. Not only will the Rams be worth seeing in 2021, but the stadium is rumored to be pretty awesome too.
