Quarterback

You may recall quarterback Tyrod Taylor as the veteran who lost his job to rookie quarterback Justin Herbert.  Well, it that came as a surprise, it was intended to happen all along.  The only surprise to the timetable was the situation where Taylor was injured but preparing to play when he was further injured by a minor medical procedure designed to help him take the field.

Taylor is a nice bridge between the pure mobility of a quarterback like John Wolford and the pocket passer who is Matthew Stafford. While it makes sense for the Rams to give serious consideration to drafting a redshirt development quarterback, if they are uncomfortable doing so then Taylor is a strong alternative.

Tyrod Taylor has played in the NFL for ten seasons. In his career, he did not often play for a winning team. But he has always carried himself with poise. And his play has almost always made his team better. Even with a veteran like Stafford at the helm, I would be tickled to add Taylor to the roster simply for the way he will mentor the Rams stable of young quarterbacks.

But we need to accept the fact that all quarterbacks face the risk of injury. Now, in 2021, there is still the ever decreasing risk of COVID-19 as well. So it would not be whimsical at all to lock up a good backup for the Rams offense. If the team is truly aiming to win it all, then the team must have a deeper and more experienced backup at the quarterback position.
