The next prospect from the Mountain West Conference is also a cornerback from Boise State named Avery Williams (5.84-grade per NFL.com). If that grade is accurate, Williams projects as a sixth-round prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft. While there are no reports of the LA Rams meeting with him, You can bet that the scouting department knows a great deal about this young man’s football potential.

We know that the Rams have targeted players who can help the team on the football field in a variety of ways. Williams is one such player. He brings it on defense, and he brings it on special teams. The LA Rams are on record wanting to add explosiveness. You can bet Avery Williams can do exactly that each and every time he returns the kickoff or punt.

His 4.41-second 40-yard dash time is certainly impressive. He stands 5-foot-8 and weighs 187-pounds. That is just slightly shorter than Rams defensive back Darious Williams, and we know that DWill has no problem in coverage.  But if the Rams sign up Avery Williams, this is as much of a special teams’ play as a defensive play.

light. Trending. LA Rams number of pre-draft meetings climbs to 22

Williams is a special teams savant. In 44 college games, he’s scored nine touchdowns in the return game. Six touchdowns as punt returns, three as kickoff returns. Williams is even faster than Rams RB Raymond Calais, and he can play defense as well. He recorded 152 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, and one fumble recovery.  He also intercepted the quarterback four times and deflected 22 passes for the Broncos defense.

He’s projected at round six, but he could fall in this draft. Don’t be surprised if the LA Rams end up with this speedster, as he is an immediate upgrade to the special teams.
