NFL Draft 2021: Top 6 LA Rams prospects from the Big Ten
By Jay Blucher
Safety
And so we begin with a secondary standout in Indiana with safety Jamar Johnson (6.27-grade per NFL.com)
No, the Rams do not particularly need a safety. But this young man plays a very similar style to the recently departed former Rams safety John Johnson III. He’s even got the same initials – JJ. Could this be the Rams Johnson and Johnson safety solution (pun intended).

This 6-feet-2, 205-pounder has a few qualities you like to hear when the talk turns to safety play – explosive against the run and solid in coverage. Those are two very fine attributes if that’s what the scouts are saying about your gridiron play.
Johnson was deemed good enough to see the field as a true freshman, played in 10 games for Indiana as a safety, and also was a special teams stand-out. He was named Indiana’s special teams player of the week in their pivotal matchup against Ohio State. He has the versatility to play corner and safety. Johnson also finished third on the team for sacks!
So he’s totally got that versatility thing working for him, something the Rams like to see. Two for the price of one. Inherent value. And while the team appears to be set at safety, this young man boasts a first round talent to many. If he falls to 57? I would not be surprised to see the safety-centric Rams add him to the team.
