Undrafted 2020 wide receiver

The LA Rams were able to add former Syracuse wide receiver Trishton Jackson after the 2020 NFL Draft without using a draft pick. That itself was pretty impressive, as he was projected to be drafted as high as the third round. Of course, that was with an expectation that the team could make use of him on the roster in some capacity.

Trishton Jackson is the ideal size and speed for the LA Rams offense, or at least was when he signed on in 2020. He stands 6-foot-1, weighs 197 pounds, and runs a 4.5-second 40-yard dash. That was good enough for a score of 6.00 on his NFL.com draft profile. The 2020 draft class was so loaded with talented wide receivers that the 20th best receiver of that draft was signed by the Rams after the draft ended. That’s mind-blowing.

Of course, that doesn’t mean much now, because the Rams were unable to make use of any of that talent over the course of the entire season. At first, the thought was simply that the Rams would upgrade his role in 2021, in a bit of flashy speed to take up some of the outgoing free agent’s Josh Reynold’s offensive snaps.  Well, that only lasted until the 2021 NFL Draft. The Rams added three new receivers in Tutu Atwell, Jacob Harris, and Ben Skowronek.

They were added despite the knowledge that second-year receiver Trishton Jackson would be ready and eager for a larger role in the offense this season.  Jackson has plenty of speed to stretch a defense, and he had the benefit of working with the LA Rams coaching staff for the entire 2020 season. Still, that doesn’t seem to be good enough. With a crowded field of receivers, there are no guarantees that Jackson will return to the 53-man roster. In fact, he may not make the practice squad.
