Rams 2022 offensive line taking shape

The lone remaining starting position on the offensive line is the team’s starting right guard. With the team currently projected to field LT- Joseph Noteboom, LG – David Edwards, OC – Brian Allen, and RT – Rob Havenstein, the Rams will re-sign Coleman Shelton (story following this one), giving the team the option to start him at RG or promote Tremayne Anchrum to slide into that position.

While I would not have lobbied very passionately for the Rams to re-sign Allen to start at offensive center, I understand the logic behind the move. There are only three votes that truly count for the team’s offensive linemen decisions. There is the vote of the front office, with an eye on the budget, affordability, and staggering contracts to ensure that the team is not decimated.

Who wants to re-sign Allen?

There is the vote of the coaching staff, who view not what happens on the football field, but what was intended as well. They see players from the beginning of OTAs, through training camp, preseason games, and throughout the season. The perspective of fans, myself included, cannot possibly see and know all that goes on behind the scenes.

Finally, there is the vote of the starting quarterback, Matthew Stafford. It’s quite clear that this move has the complete support of Stafford and the Rams to reassemble their offensive line for 2022 and beyond.  After all, it’s easy for fans to chime in as we watch from the safety of the stands or our own living rooms, but it’s another thing completely to be protected by these five players.
