All in, or all out? That is the question that hovers over the Los Angeles Rams and has shrouded the team as soon as NFL Rumors linked the Rams as a potential landing site for Miami Dolphins DB Jalen Ramsey. The almost-always meticulous front office completely ignored the cornerback position in the 2025 NFL Draft, fueling rumors that the team would bolster the secondary with additional help.

Suspicions were later confirmed as Rams HC Sean McVay revealed that the team had entered into trade talks with the Dolphins for Ramsey. But entering into negotiations is a far cry from emerging with a suitable agreement, and that is a lesson that Rams fans are learning right now, the hard way.

At the time that NFL rumors grew red-hot over the likelihood of a trade to occur, the Rams roster had plenty of room, filled with 87 of the 90 authorized players. But now, the Rams have filled all 90 roster slots, and the likelihood of trading for Jalen Ramsey appears to have been pushed to the back burner, if not abandoned altogether.

The thing is, the Rams had attempted to upgrade the secondary in 2024, with little success. Veteran DB Tre'Davious White proved to be an outright bust, unable to reclaim his pre-injury form in time to help the Rams shut down opposing receivers. Likewise, veteran DB Darious Williams was unable to suit up for the team in the early weeks of the season, delaying the communication and chemistry that is vital to making a secondary pass defense hum to perfection.

It was not until the team reached out to former starting cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon that the defense began to show a bit of resilience. And yet, after all that has been laid out, the fit and impact for Jalen Ramsey is clear. Even if he can no longer be trusted to shut down the NFL's best receivers, he is an upgrade over the team's existing option. And he has excellent run defense skills, too.

So when the likelihood of his return to the Rams seemed to fade, fans reacted with disappointment.

But where there is a will, there is a way. And I suspect that Jalen Ramsey is willing to push the Dolphins to make a deal as quickly as possible.
