Former Los Angeles Rams pass rusher Jared Verse is, ironically, only now being 'discovered' by mainstream NFL media. After two seasons dominating the line of scrimmage in Horns, the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year is at last getting some attention as more than just a promising prospect or an exciting sidekick. Curiously, it only happened when he joined the ever-irrelevant Cleveland Browns.
The challenge for Verse won't be winning over his new supporters with his performance on the football field, nor his passion for the game. Perhaps his greatest challenge this season will be reeducating NFL fans about just what kind of impact he can make.
Funny thing, he's been known by his 'new' nickname for the past two seasons in LA.
Yeah they cooked with this nickname 🔥

And so it goes. Verse, known to Rams fans as a pass rusher no offensive tackle wanted to face, is now tasked with making the Browns believers in his Pro Bowl prowess.
Jared Verse backs up his trash talk
Despite Verse's dominance off the edge, his sack numbers have not reflected just how impactful he has been. As fans flock to fantasy football, playmakers like Verse are sometimes overlooked because their efforts produce modest figures in the box score.
His impact is undeniable. 12 sacks in two seasons doesn't pay in fantasy land, but Verse is a pressure machine and, for the edge rusher position, also a productive tackler against the run. Pro Football Focus credited him with 80 total pressures and 35 stops in his sophomore season. Not so shabby, even if that won't win any fantasy league championships.
Those contributions did suffice, however, to earn him his second Pro Bowl bid. Verse has the character to match his relentless playstyle. A ball of indomitable energy, he is one of the few young players who can incite Philadelphia Eagles fans before a game at Lincoln Field, then silence them with his play.
It's that brash attitude, backed up by ferocious physicality, that will endear him to Browns fans. In the black-and-blue AFC North Division, where victory is measured by bruises and the Ravens rule as the resident bird of prey, Verse will fit right in.
Rams fans know and love the fiery tactics of the Florida State alumnus. They're the ones who aptly dubbed him V8. Just how well the moniker fits is something the Browns fanbase is only now coming to learn. It shouldn't take long to stick.
As always, thanks for reading.
