Choosing Davante Adams over AJ Brown looks better all the time for Rams

At one point in time, the Los Angeles Rams gave serious consideration to adding former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown. But doing so would have forced them to make other roster moves, such as trading Davante Adams. Ultimately, general manager Les Snead shut down the discussion, and the Eagles ended up trading Brown to another suitor, the New England Patriots.

So far this season, Adams has appeared in all five games for LA. He has hauled in 27 of 45 passes thrown his way for 441 yards and four touchdowns. He's catching 60 percent of his targets and putting up nearly 10 yards per pass, 16.3 yards per reception, and 88.2 yards per game.

Conversely, Brown has suited up for only one game, which he left with an injury. He has caught three passes on four targets for 26 yards: 6.5 yards per target and 8.7 yards per reception.

Good news for Patriots fans: New England has opened Brown's practice window, so that he is now eligible to come off injured reserve and participate with his teammates as he ramps up to return to the active roster.

Rams dodged a bullet by declining AJ Brown trade

While it's impossible to conclude that Brown would have suffered a similar injury had he been traded to Los Angeles, it's also impossible to ignore the facts. Adams was an offensive workhorse for LA while the team awaited the healthy return of wide receiver Puka Nacua. Adams single-handedly delivered a victory in Week 2 over the New York Giants when he put up 195 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Even a healthy AJ Brown has never done that.

And therein lies the rub. The Rams wanted to get better production at receiver and Adams has delivered exactly that. While he lags slightly behind last season's touchdown-per-game pace, his 443 receiving yards is already 56 percent of his 2025 production. And he has nine more games to gain the remaining 346 receiving yards.

All of this ignores the fact that LA saved valuable assets by avoiding the trade. The Patriots sent Philadelphia a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 first-rounder. So far, Brown has not even balanced out the value of that fifth-round selection.

Of course, neither the Rams nor the Patriots have met expectations after five games. But stay tuned. Adams appears to have a clear advantage over Brown in 2026. The decision to stick with Adams looks better all the time.

As always, thanks for reading.
