Don't be surprised if Les Snead revisits the trade market to reinforce Rams' roster

You snooze, you lose. That's the standard that all general managers face as the annual NFL trade deadline nears. But no one can accuse Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead of falling asleep at the wheel.

Especially not this season. After trading for both cornerback Trent McDuffie and edge rusher Myles Garrett, Snead may sit out this year's trade season.

Or he may be lured back into action, anyway.

It looks as though the Arizona Cardinals are parting ways with underwhelming receiver Marvin Harrison Jr, altough a trade partner has yet to be named and reportedly won't be until after the Cardinals play on Sunday.

In fact, many rosters have already undergone midseason changes. Harrison is just the latest sign of robust NFL commerce as deadline fervor nears. Vikings quarterbck J.J. McCarthy (now with the Giants) Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. (Cowboys), and Eagles center Cam Jurgens (Ravens) have all been moved well ahead of the November 10 cutoff.

With so many players being treaded, will Snead get swept up once more?

The Rams have certainly suffered plenty of injuries early this season, which could prompt Snead to ponder the trade market. Not only has LA struggled to establish continuity, but amid the weekly turnover the team sits .500 in a tough division.

Perhaps a new player or two could help get the Rams on track.

The thing is, they are running out of trade currency. LA has already traded away three of its seven 2027 draft picks. They are left with a second-rounder, a fourth, and fifth, and sixth.

That's already the lowest value of any NFL team in next year's draft. And with over 24 Rams in the last year of their contracts, shedding more picks seems counterproductive.

But not impossible.

Snead has proven to be both aggressive and unpredictable in the past. Despite having few picks to work with, he will act if he identifies a true fit for the roster. Fans will remember a somewhat similar scenario not so long ago, when the Rams attempted to patch an injury-depleted 2022 group by pursuing then-Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey or edge rusher Brian Burns.

The Panthers rejected both offers, forcing the team to manufacture talent on their own from drafting rookies.

Stay tuned. Snead has already been active this season fortifying LA's ailing roster with moves around the fringes. If the right player is up for grabs, he may just surprise everyone and make another trade.

As always, thanks for reading.
