Both the 11-3 Los Angeles Rams and 11-3 Seattle Seahawks must square off on a short week to face off for what could be a game to decide the NFC West Division title. The byproduct of this Thursday Night Clash of two NFC heavyweights will also play a large say in the NFC playoff seeding.

But what of the NFC North?

Let's push a pin in that for just a moment. LA's top touchdown maker, and an NFL elite receiver, Davante Adams, has reaggravated his hamstring injury, the same injury that he had fought through for weeks. The injury occured in the team's Week 15 contest against the Detroit Lions, and did not look good.

With a short week to prepare, the likelihood for Adams recovery apeared to be extremely unlikely.

But the team has never eliminated the possibility. Even as the team delays the decision of whether Adams would or would not play against the Seahawks, his absence in practice casts a long shadow over this offense. And for a team that only scored 21 points in the first matchup, a guy who scored on a one-yard touchdown reception is vital to this week's success.

Davante Adams is officially listed as doubtful for Week 16.

Davante Adams status for Week 16 remains a game time decision

Los Angeles may need Adams uncanny knack for scoring to win this one. But do the Horns need to win to ensure success in the NFL Playoffs? That is up for debate. Ideally, Los Angeles could focus on a Week 18 BYE by sitting starters, sit Adams until the playoffs, and be a healthier team for postseason competition in the process.

The key to postseason success is to arrive healthy. So as fans ponder the Rams' strategy for this game, don't lose sight of that fact. It's not winning the most regular-season games that is the true goal. It's simply winning enough games.

The Rams are the lone NFC team to have locked up a playoff spot. Everything else from here on out is icing on the cake.

The Rams turned back the challenge of the 8-6 Detroit Lions. The Seahawks had an easier time against the 4-8 Minnesota Vikings. And the 10-4 San Francisco 49ers have yet to host the 10-4 Chicago Bears. So it comes down to Los Angeles vs. Seattle in their rematch to decide who lays claim to the No. 1 seed in the upcoming playoffs.

Davante Adams is most dangerous in the end zone, and some NFL analysts have flirted with the veteran wide receiver taking the field in a very limited red zone role. While that would create secondary confusion, a shaky hamstring would limit Adams in that role. And why risk further injury?

A game-time decision. Hopefully, the team and the player make the right one. The Rams are in. The last thing this team needs is to lose a key player now, with the playoffs approaching.

As always, thanks for reading.
