Yes, the Los Angeles Rams are to the point where addressing their quarterback succession plan can no longer be taken lightly or casually. Despite the soaring productivity of veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, general manager Les Snead knows that the pendulum can swing the opposite way in 2026.

But it's also true that many draft analysts are rapidly cooling off on rookie quarterback prospects who are likely to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft. Los Angeles not only is selecting on Day 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft, but this team is scheduled to make two picks on Day 1.

Ironically, not even two picks guarantee the addition of an NFL-ready rookie quarterback. Well, the latest article from The Ringer's Diane Lee offers up an out-of-the-box solution to LA's quarterback woes. Lee suggests that the Rams pry promising quarterback Trevor Lawrence from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Of course, the presumption that triggers this blockbuster trade is the sudden retirement of veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. It's unlikely that Stafford will retire after the season he is having. But even less likely is the Jacksonville Jaguars willingness to entertain any trade offers for their young starting quarterback.

But there is a kernel of truth to the Ringer's latest QB scenario

The only quarterback drafted by the LA Rams since hiring head coach Sean McVay was former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett, who despite the cold shoulder from many fans even to this day, has been rapidly improving to the point that he could be an option to take over from Stafford if he chooses to retire.

But if the team wishes to dabble in the NFL free agency market, many promising quarterbacks will be looking for new contracts in 2026. And it's not too much of a stretch that more than one veteran would be delighted to join forces with head coach Sean McVay.

There are also many quarterbacks under contract for 2025 that could be pried away for a low fair market offer. One such quarterback is tarnished Anthony Richardson, whose career could rebound in McVay's offense.

The thing is, Los Angeles is not shackled to the 2026 NFL Draft to find its next quarterback. Even if Matthew Stafford's successor is not already on the team, he may already be in the NFL.That is the kernel of truth to the Ringer's latest QB scenaro that fans would be wise not to miss.

As always, thanks for reading.
