Even as the Los Angeles Rams digest the pitfalls and puzzle pieces of the 2026 NFL schedule, fans already have the opportunity to gaze into the future at their 2027 scheduled opponents. No fortune teller nor crystal ball is required, as the NFL follows a rhythmic pattern of pitting the NFC West against a rotating pair of other NFL divisions.

In 2027, LA will face opponents from the AFT North and NFC North Divisions. Added to those eight games are the six annual games with divisional rivals. That leaves just three opponents to determine for 2027, based on how teams finish the 2026 NFL season.

Okay, so why should fans care in the least? Well, it's myopic to stare at the present alone. Peripheral vision is vital to life. It's that ability to perceive patterns that prepares us for planning our daily lives. And that's just human nature.

Even as Rams fans experience this year's games, they can keep future opponents in sight. And those teams that struggle will be forced to rebuild their coaching staff and rosters. But teams that do well in 2026 could be problematic in 2027.

AFC North and NFC North teams projected to find success in 2026

Of course, the first indication of the 2027 NFL season lies in how tough the schedule may be. Because the LA Rams typically find success, they must slug it out with other successful team in the NFL. But what about the teams we know about now?

Well, NFL Spin Zone has a solid track record for projecting team win totals, so let's tap their recent 2026 projections to add some clarity to the 2027 schedule:

AFC North teams | Win Projections

  • Baltimore Ravens | 11 - 6
  • Cincinnati Bengals | 10 - 7
  • Pittsburgh Steelers | 7 - 10
  • Cleveland Browns | 4 - 13

Despite the Ravens under an entirely new coaching staff, the consensus is that they are the cream of the AFC North. I'm not convinced. But I do believe that the division will be a slugfest all season long.

NFC North teams | Win Projections

  • Detroit Lions | 13 - 4
  • Green Bay Packers | 11 - 6
  • Chicago Bears | 10 - 7
  • Minnesota Vikings | 6 - 11

The NFC North is expected to be loaded with competitive success in 2026. Curiously, last year's division winner, the Chicago Bears, are expected to fall to third place. And will the Vikings drift in the NFC North basement is 2026? Hmm...

NFC West Teams | Win Projections

  • Los Angeles Rams | 12 - 5
  • San Francisco 49ers | 12 - 5
  • Seattle Seahawks | 12 - 5
  • Arizona Cardinals | 2 - 15

While I can see the Los Angeles Rams winning the division this season, the three-way tie scenario portrayed here is highly unlikely. San Fran feels like a team that could slump in 2026. They have some key veterans who may feel their age as this season rolls along, and tight end George Kittle is struggling to get healthy in time for Week 1.

Of course, three opponents have yet to be identified. And the NFL schedulers will continue to wield significant power in terms of who, when, and where LA faces its opponents. But fans already have a sneak preview of14 of 17 games.

As always, thanks for reading.
