Changes are coming, whether Los Angeles Rams fans are ready or not. That was an article published just two days ago. And by now, everyone knows what it meant, and why. But if the revelation hasn't sunk in just yet, let's slow this down a bit. After all, fans are waking up to the fact that Andrew Whitworth, Cooper Kupp, Jalen Ramsey, Rob Havenstein, and Von Miller are gone.

Tyler Higbee and Matthew Stafford are under contract through 2026. and they are joined by over 20 of their teammates.

This was no accident. It's the ever-present force of change that rules the NFL. Like a snake that must shed its scaly skin to grow, Los Angeles deliberately synchronized the expiration of contracts at season's end to serve as a checkpoint on whether to stick with the current roster or to start over. Even now, the team is negotiating to bring Stafford back for 2026, and hopefully beyond.

But Stafford is 38 years old. His former backup, Jimmy Garoppolo, is 34 years old. Even Stetson Bennett, in the last year of his rookie contract, is 28 years old. Los Angeles had to get younger at the quarterback position now. They just did.

Never trust the instant reactions of the NFL Draft

The incredible draft class of 2023 averaged B's in its instant grades. But after those rookies have played their hearts out for three seasons, many as starters, wouldn't the grades likely be A's? It's the same story that LA has faced for years. When Los Angeles drafted in 2017, the overall grade after the draft concluded was a B-.

Nobody likes change.

And yet, that is one of the key roles for general manager Les Snead. He not only has to manage change, but master it. And as much as fans hope for this team to somehow find the perfect prospect in the draft when the team steps up to the podium, it's just not going to happen often. Mastering change means getting ahead of it, not reacting to it.

One year ago, the Rams training camp was powered by Jimmy Garoppolo, Stetson Bennett, and Dresser Winn. That was a warning shot. Thank goodness, Snead saw and understood. Even if head coach Sean McVay is unhappy with the selection, it was the right pick.

Change is unsettling. Trusting Les Snead when you agree with his decisions is easy. Trusting him now is when it counts. Even the NFL experts who know football and the LA Rams system love the pickup of quarterback Ty Simpson. And as OTAs begin and folds into training camp, will it even matter? Ultimately, the value of any pick is the player selected.

LA has 25 more roster slots to fill. Buckly up fans, and the fun has just begun. As always, thanks for reading.
