While Los Angeles Rams fans continue to digest the expansive changes of an event-filled offseason, the team's methodology remains overlooked. When it comes to adding young players via the draft and free agency, the Rams have already found the secret sauce success by investing only in players who care. The results have been vindicating.
The front office has extended the same approach to acquiring veterans. Yes, cornerback Trent McDuffie is well-paid, but can he put his passion above his purse? That's exactly the type of player the Horns are getting, general manager Les Snead confirmed in an interview on the Fitz & Whit podcast, with former players Ryan Fitzpatrick and Andrew Whitworth.
"You get some intel that Trent might be available via trade ... He's in the prime of his career. Not only is he one of the better corners in the league but he's one of the better humans on the planet and he really cares about football. It just becomes a bit of a no brainer."

McDuffie was one of the standouts during Rams OTAs, and his impact will only increase with reps. The nearly-26-year-old All-Pro has started 56 regular season games and 10 in the playoffs, and has slipped two Super Bowl rings on his finger.
Now he brings all that talent and know-how to the Horns.
Trent McDuffie will elevate entire Rams' secondary
The addition of McDuffie and his Kansas City Chiefs teammate Jaylen Watson will boost LA's secondary in several ways. The first and most obvious upgrade is in their presence as battle-tested veterans, not just in coverage, but across the entire spectrum of defensive responsibilities, like tackling technique and playing in position. Plus, they are multi-time champions. McDuffie and Watson are winners.
Their arrival will also allow Emmanuel Forbes to play a role more suited to his skill set, which centers on physical energy and toughness. Assigned with covering less-talented receivers, he should be more effective. The Rams will need him to be if he's going to hold down the fort as CB3.
A third benefit is that McDuffie and Watson will be like mini-secondary coaches to their teammates. Communication is vital among defensive backs in particular. It only enhances McDuffie's own value he has also mastered the art of remaining in constant touch his fellow DBs.
For any position group, success depends on quickly forming cohesion and chemistry. That should not be a problem for this Rams secondary. McDuffie is more than a talented player. He's someone who cares.
As always, thanks for reading.
