The Los Angeles Rams were just a few plays away from the 2024 NFL season ending entirely differently for them. A narrow loss at the hands of the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles proved that they needed just a few more pieces to get back to where they were in 2021.
By swapping out weapons like Cooper Kupp for Davante Adams and adding talented players like Terrance Ferguson, Coleman Shelton, and Poona Ford this offseason, the Rams are back in position to make a serious push in the NFC.
It won't be easy to fend through the conference, however, as teams like the Eagles, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still lurking in contention. Another hopeful contender, the Minnesota Vikings, has a glaring issue that the Rams could fix, but they shouldn't.
Rams cannot afford to trade WR to Vikings despite their issues
Minnesota has one of the best wide receiver tandems in the league with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. However, Addison is suspended for the beginning of the season, and several wideouts, including Jefferson, have dealt with injuries this offseason.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported on Wednesday that the Vikings are looking to add a veteran wideout on the trade market, and that is where the Rams come in. Los Angeles has several solid receivers who can play a supporting role and could be used as trade bait.
However, the Rams need to avoid helping out the Vikings at all costs. While Adams and Puka Nacua are both safe, even players like Tutu Atwell, Jordan Whittington and Xavier Smith figure to be a pivotal part of the offense this season.

With the Rams in a Super Bowl window, they should be focusing more on what can help them right now, and not chasing draft picks in exchange for players that can contribute this season. That is what a rebuilding team does, but that is not where things are in Los Angeles.
If rookie seventh-rounder Konata Mumpfield continues to make strides and players like Britain Covey show out, then it could make Atwell or Whittington more expendable. However, helping out the Vikings for a potential mid-round pick would not be a smart move by Les Snead and Co.
The tight end room figures to be a solid part of the passing attack this season as well. However, just because the Rams have the weapons to make a trade does not mean they need to, especially to an NFC foe that they could face in the playoffs.
