The Arizona Cardinals will be a bad team this year. Rookie running back Jeremiyah Love, the No. 4 pick in the 2026 draft, will provide some excitement. Trey McBride is a monster at tight end. They've got a new head coach in former Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur.
But, yeah, it's going to be a rough season. The Cardinals will be right there with the Dolphins in the league basement with a projected win total of 4.5.Â
With that in mind, it came across as rather outlandish, though not so unpredictable, when Arizona linebacker Mack Wilson offered his response, seemingly miffed, to the Rams' Myles Garrett trade: "They gotta deal with us," he tersely shrugged.
NFL players are nothing if not confident, but media sessions are generally a place for tact unless you want to wind up immortalized in meme-land. Which is exactly what happened to Wilson. He, of all people, should know something about Garrett's impact. The two of them were teammates in Cleveland from 2019 to 2021.Â
And the thing is, Wilson isn't just speaking for himself. He is speaking for the Cardinals as a whole. Things could get real embarrassing when they visit the Rams in Week 6 as 13.5-point underdogs.Â
Wilson's brash comments may come back to bite his team
While the Rams, Seahawks, and 49ers consistently compete for Super Bowls, the Cardinals have for years been stuck in the teething stage of a one-foot-in, one-foot-out rebuild. Last season they finally committed to tank in earnest. This season likely holds more of the same.Â
With bigger things in mind, Los Angeles won't take much savor from beating up on the little brothers of the NFC West. At the same time, they can't take games against the Cardinals, which are still technically division rivalry matchups, for granted. The Horns can't afford to fumble the easy ones in a grueling schedule. They must come ready to play, and that means keeping the pedal to the metal.Â
If LA finds itself in need of a boost six weeks into the season, especially coming off four out of five games against Super Bowl contenders, you'd better believe that revisiting Wilson's clip will supply it. Sure, no one wants to give an inch to their rivals. That doesn't mean providing foolhardy bulletin board content.
Deal with the Cardinals? Don't worry, Mack. With all the 3-and-outs generated by Garrett & Co., Arizona defenders should be on the field plenty, with a chance to show the world what they've got. Final Week 6 score prediction: Rams 38, Cardinals 10, en route to a season series sweep.
