Over the last week, we've seen plenty about the Bryce Young situation over in Carolina. The idea of Young being traded, after he was benched by head coach Dave Canales, has been widely talked about. Some have even tossed around the idea of the L.A. Rams making a play for the former no. 1 overall pick.
On Week three's edition of FOX NFL Sunday, though, insider Jay Glazer provided an update on the Young situation and Carolina's willingness to entertain a potential trade:
"There's four teams who actually called the Panthers this week and tried to inquire to see if they can trade for Bryce Young."
For now, it appears the idea of trading Young has been completely shut down by the Panthers. However, they have indeed received interest.
"All four teams were told emphatically by Carolina, 'We are not trading him, we do still think there's a future here,'" Glazer said.
More Rams news:
Now, Glazer wouldn't mention the four teams who called the Panthers about a possible deal. But, it definitely seems logical to say the Rams could have been one of those four. After all, there's been tons of recent speculation about who could wind up taking over for Matthew Stafford -- and we certainly don't want it to be this guy.
Bryce Young to the Rams makes sense, but only if both sides understand the terms
While we don't know if the Rams were one of the four teams to make a call on Young, the speculation will continue to run wild. And, it does make sense.
With Stafford getting older and the Rams not necessarily having a great backup plan for their future, Young would be a plausible option. The terms of a trade like this, though, would include Young sitting on the bench for the immediate future.
Young would back up Stafford for at least the 2024 season, if not 2025 as well. And, it wouldn't be crazy for something like this to happen. Sure, he's a former no. 1 overall pick. But, some of the greats took time to sit for a little while before they were given the reigns.
Just ask Aaron Rodgers.
Sitting behind Stafford and receiving direction from someone like head coach Sean McVay could be the best-case scenario for Young and his ability to develop at the NFL level. Absorbing all that he can from both would give him a whole lot more to learn and digest than what he's been given in Carolina, thus far.
That's for certain.
If Carolina were to end up putting Young on the trade block, the Rams should be one of the first teams to come calling. With Les Snead running the show, the Rams have never been shy in terms of making moves, so this would not come as a surprise.
