LA Rams Free Agency tracker 2023: Who’s coming and going in Los Angeles?

It's easy to see what the LA Rams have done so far to prepare for the 2023 NFL season, and expect the other shoe to drop at any minute. After all, this is the LA Rams, the same Rams that authored the blockbuster trade to pry All-Pro defensive back Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars. This is the same LA Rams that authored the blockbuster trade that sent three draft picks and starting quarterback Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions for veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford.

This is a team that has had just one sub-.500 season since hiring Head Coach Sean McVay in 2017. So how is it that this team has outright released All-Pro ILB Bobby Wagner and sack-leader OLB Leonard Floyd outright, with no compensation? How is it that this team has placed WR Allen Robinson and DB Jalen Ramsey on the trading block, both of whom are still in their NFL prime?

It's a new LA Rams team, and the Rams roster is purging down to the foundation. Yes, the narrative right now is that the LA Rams are keeping veteran QB Matthew Stafford, DL Aaron Donald, and WR Cooper Kupp. But who's fooling who? They are staying because it costs the LA Rams astronomically more to shed them in 2023 than to keep them.

Updated: March 30, 2023, 10:00 am PT  Current Roster: 45 players
(pending release/trade of Allen Robinson, and re-signing DT Marquise Copeland)

LA Rams (per Spotrac.com) currently projected 2023 NFL salary Cap space: ($14,419,114)

PER THE NFLPA salary cap website, the LA Rams are now listed at 45 players and $11,479,113 dollars in spendable salary cap space

The LA Rams' current cap space only reflects $5,000,000 in savings as officially released veteran Bobby Wagner. Although his release occured at 1:00 pm PT on March 15, 2023, as the 2023 NFL season began, the team did not designate his release as a Post-June 1 release, thereby not saving the team an additional $3,000,000 in 2023 NFL salary cap space. Since the team has only two such post-June 1 designations available, the option NOT to use one on Wagner ensures both elections remain in play for the LA Rams.

With 45+ open roster spaces as of March 23, there is likely to be some anxiety, particularly if the Rams do not pick up the pace in adding players in free agency. Keep in mind that the LA Rams hold 11 draft picks, and have signed as many as 22 undrafted free-agent rookies in the past. With returning ERFAs currently at just 3 players, the Rams will need to shop for as many as 35 FAs/UDFAs.
