Rams’ Aaron Donald hype receives another dose of serious fuel

Los Angeles Rams fans sit on the edge of their seats as they await news on whether or not Aaron Donald will actually unretire. Will he suit back up and put the cleats on every week or was this all just an entertaining story?

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer sure seems to think that the future Hall of Fame pass-rusher is coming back to the Rams.

"I think he's coming back, and I think he will play the full season," Breer said on The Dan Patrick Show on Tuesday. "Look, they've discussed this. ... Sean McVay and Aaron Donald are very, very close and they already have the framework of a plan laid out for what this is going to look like and how they're going to handle it.

"The other thing that really helps is the depth they have at that position. Like, they don't need to play him 60 plays a game. They can use him creatively. ... This is a situation where they can really use them in a way that's going to, I think, put him in position to be at his best when it matters most."

That is music to Rams fans' ears.

Not only does Breer think Donald is coming out of retirement to pick up where he left off, the NFL insider also made another excellent point. The Rams don't need Donald to play every single snap. They can rotate him in whenever they feel like it.

That's a lot of fun for Rams fans to think about and not so much fun for 31 other teams, especially those on Los Angeles' schedule this season.

While this defense is already stacked, throwing Donald into that mix would be even more insane. Sure, Donald hasn't played an NFL snap since 2023 but, again, as Breer noted, L.A. wouldn't need him on the field during the entire game. He'd be rotated in and out, allowing him to find his footing after over two years out of the league.

This kind of move isn't even necessary to make the Rams Super Bowl favorites - they already are - but it's certainly wouldn't hurt them either. The more, the merrier, as people say.

If Donald wants to rejoin the franchise that drafted him back in 2014, the Rams will happily have him back, even in a reduced role. This is going to be a lot of fun, isn't it?
