In Week 10, the Los Angeles Rams won a crucial contest on the road against the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 42-26. It was the best of times for an offense that had been building momentum all season long. But at a time when the team needed offensive firepower, the arsenal was bursting with weaponry.

It was a team suddenly powered by tight ends. Against the 49ers, starting quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 10 of 14 passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns to the team's four tight ends. So when the team had an opportunity to backfill a recently vacated roster spot on the practice squad roster, the position was clear. The team needed another tight end.

And so, general manager Les Snead signed former Minnesota Vikings tight end Nick Muse.

Muse is a three-season veteran, but arrives in Los Angeles as a young and unproven player. He was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in Round 7 of the 2022 NFL Draft, seeing action in 16 games over the span of his career. He caught the only pass thrown his way.

Do the Rams have a need for another tight end?

One of the first questions springing to fans' minds is whether Muse fills a potentially active role or is merely an insurance policy. And to be frank, he likely fills both roles. At 6-foot-5 and 252 pounds, he can be seen as an immediate depth addition for a blocking tight end role.

He joins tight end Mark Redman on the practice squad.

Historically, the team has elevated tight ends from the practice squad for game days for specific roles, whether to add blocking depth or special team specialists. Muse has extensive experience on the Vikings' special teams, so that could be another role he will fill.

But the team is also wise to bolster the ranks of tight ends. With four tight ends actively contributing to the team on game day, the odds of injury to one tight end increase. So adding depth to the position ensures that this team has adequate depth to practice and perform optimally.

Despite Muse's lack of offensive production, he does bring familiarity with a Sean McVay-inspired offense, courtesy of Vikings' head coach Kevin O'Connell. As such, he can be expected to learn a similar offense rather quickly.

Tight end time? You bet it is. And fans are here for it. The fact that the team is adding to the position is great news for those who want the popular and successful trend to continue.

As always, thanks for reading.
