Rams being mock-draft darlings makes Myles Garrett deal look even sweeter

The latest NFL mock draft is giving the Rams full credit for adding Myles Garrett, and the move might look even better in coming years.

How can fans take an accurate temperature of the Los Angeles Rams' offseason moves? One method is to find and read through the endless stream of power rankings, draft grades, and upcoming season win-loss projections. But if you found an easier way to boil it all down to one glance, would you take it?

If you don't have the time to scan dozens of articles, next year's mock drafts can provide a crystallized version of the general consensus. It's simple: the order of teams selecting in the 2027 NFL Draft will tell you everything you need to know.

Consider this mock draft by Pro Football Network, which implies that the Rams will outduel the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl LXI:

Now wasn't that easy? Perusing further yields the following projected NFC West standings:

1 - Los Angeles Rams
2 - Seattle Seahawks
3 - San Francisco 49ers
4 - Arizona Cardinals

Of course, other mock drafts will put it differently. In general, though, the Rams are right there at the very bottom of the draft order. It looks like the court of public opinion does not expect LA's worst-case scenario - or anything close to it - to take place this season.

Mylers Garrett trade is looking better and better

From a Cleveland Browns point of view, the Rams' Myles Garrett package may have initially felt underwhelming, albeit reasonable. After all, many NFL analysts and fans expected the winning bid to start at two first-round picks, plus players and additional picks. Los Angeles managed to get him for one first-rounder, plus stuff.

Obviously, Verse being part of that "stuff" - and he is a former first-rounder himself - makes a big difference. Ultimately, though, this deal could be even better than it looks for the Rams. Not to jinx the season, but if they reach Super Bowl LXI, or even come close, their 2027 first-round draft pick will be little better than a glorified second-rounder. Their continued success would deflate the value of all three picks included in the deal.

Still, don't pity the Browns just yet. General manager Andrew Barry successfully pried away a young star in Verse, who still has room to grow. Verse is perfectly built to flourish in the black-and-blue AFC North, which Browns fans are quickly discovering.

Not all first-round picks are the same. The first overall pick is worth its weight in gold in GM circles. But the Rams aren't kidding themselves. They know they likely won't be picking in the top 10 for many years to come. In that case, "F--- them picks."

That Garrett deal should look even better over time.

As always, thanks for reading.
