Let's get right to it. Arizona Cardinals linebacker Mack Wilson made a ridiculously funny comment in a recent interview about the Los Angeles Rams' addition of edge rusher Myles Garrett. By now, you've probably heard of it.
"At the end of the day, they've got to deal with us."Cardinals linebacker Mack Wilson
Well, sure. But since his hire in 2017, head coach Sean McVay has been rather successful against the Cards. He has a 15-3 record in the regular season and 1-0 in the postseason against the Redbirds.
By all accounts, the Horns have dealt with the Cardinals with relative ease.
Former Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur is Arizona's new head coach. He already has his work cut out for him. Allowing Wilson's comments to become a distraction will just make his job harder. The Cardinals have bigger problems facing them than two games against LaFleur's old team this season. He might want to remind Wilson of that fact.
Cardinals have big problems in the NFC West
Arizona went 3-14 last season. It's been five years since the team finished above .500 or made the playoffs. That 2021 season is the only time the Cardinals have accomplished either feat in the past decade.
So, if they want to be taken seriously, players would be wise to say less and let their play do the talking. That should already be the focus for a team that has won just 19 games over the past four seasons.
Wilson could help by stepping up his own production. While a solid rotation player, this isn't a Pro Bowler talking. Wilson graded out 47th among 88 inside linebackers in 2025, per Pro Football Foccus. Certainly NFL rosters have a place for the trash-talking sparkplug, but public media sessions aren't the best platform to try to light a fire beneath the team.
When comments are sure to invite ridicule and distraction, it's probably best to keep them in the locker room. There, they can serve as inspiration without embarrassing the organization.
The Rams respect every opponent and fear none. If that Week 6 game against the Cardinals seemed like a potential sleepy spot, that's not the case any longer. Wilson's remarks are ideally suited as bulletin-board fodder.
Well, thanks for the boost. Trying to amp up his own team, Wilson also just fueled the entire Rams roster.
As always, thanks for reading.
