Rams patience will be amply rewarded if they can resist drafting a quarterback

LA needs a quarterback now. But the 2027 rookie quarterback class is just so darned tempting.

Patience is a virtue.

The Los Angeles Rams quarterback room is getting its fair share of tremors right now. Free agent quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is grappling with the decision to retire. The team is nearing an agreement for starting quarterback Matthew Stafford to return, but for 2026 only. The only other option is Stetson Bennett, whose contract expires at year's end.

That's right. The shelves at the quarterback position are bare in 2027.

Time to act. Or not. The same conundrum has presented itself to the team, and at each crisis point, an excellent solution has surfaced out of thin air. LA needed a veteran, and then veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield was released. The following year, quarterback Carson Wentz was available. And for the past two seasons, the team was more than happy with backup Jimmy Garoppolo.

Adam Schefter preaches patience to quarterback needy teams

Should LA rush to draft a quarterback? Well, perhaps. You see, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter explains why patient NFL teams may be marvelously rewarded by waiting to draft a quarterback until 2027. And yes, Los Angeles could be counted among those teams at this time. After all, LA's quarterback room is barren next year.

"Quarterbacks already on the NFL's radar for 2027 include Oregon's Dante Moore, Texas' Arch Manning, Texas Tech's Brendan Sorsby, South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers, Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss, Miami's Darian Mensah, Ohio State's Julian Sayin, Notre Dame's CJ Carr, LSU's Sam Leavitt, UCLA's Nico Iamaleava and Oklahoma's John Mateer.

Not all of those players will be first-round picks, but there are great expectations for many of them, and it provides a glimpse of the potential." -

Can this team exercise enough patience to shop from what currently appears to be the riches of talented rookies in 2027? Or does the need in 2026 supersede the hope to upgrade simply by denying the need for quarterback depth now? Some fans would love to wait.

For now, it's a matter of waiting for the draft results. As always, thanks for reading.
