Recent Rams signing draws from same well that produced Harrison Mevis

Los Angeles Rams fans know that as soon as the team suffers an injury setback, general manager Les Snead will spring into action. So when LA lost two players to injury as training camp opened, nobody panicked. Snead has a keen sense of fits, and he may have hit the bullseye once more.

To replenish the ranks in the secondary, Snead signed star UFL safety Alex Cook. Yes, Cook hails from the former home of the Thiccer Kicker, Harrison Mevis. Mevis was outstanding in LA after an admirable run in the UFL.

Now Snead is back at it again, attempting to find another UFL star who can replicate that production for the Horns.

Alex Cook could be a wild card in training camp

A safety by trade, the 6-foot-1, 196-pound Cook is more akin to a hybrid DB, much like veteran Quentin Lake. While his most recent football chapter was spent with the UFL's Birmingham Stallions, he brings plenty of NFL experience with him, including stops with the Panthers, Giants, and Bears. He appeared in 10 games for the Panthers in 2023, starting two.

He has already played 10 games for the Stallions in 2026, recording 43 tackles with one tackle for a loss and one interception. Birmingham's last game of the 2026 season was played on May 30. Cook may be new to Los Angeles, but he is just hitting his football stride.

That makes a huge difference. While many players are just warming up. Cook is already there. And he has plenty of NFL coaching and experience to draw from.

The UFL is a different version of football, but it's a faster blend. And that quicker pace is exactly what Snead sought in signing Cook. Cook was timed as fast as 4.55 seconds in the 40-yard dash. That speed could make him effective on special teams in coverage units.

Fans may not know much about Cook yet, but that may change by the time preseason ends. He is more than a camp body; he actually has a legitimate shot of making the Rams' roster.
