We can quickly move on from that silly idea.

Amidst much of the chaos that is leading up to this year's NFL trade deadline and already having seen some major deals come to fruition, we're also going to see our fair share of rumors surfacing. On Tuesday, one particular rumor started to make its way around the L.A. Rams and their fan base.

There was a social media post from sports personality Jack Settleman which led many to believe the Vikings and Rams were "in serious talks" about a potential Matthew Stafford trade.

This rumor centered on the idea of the Vikings reuniting Stafford with Kevin O'Connell. Meanwhile, the Rams were said to have interest in re-signing Sam Darnold to a long-term deal.

Of course, Rams fans likely had a hard time believing there were any legs to this. We didn't see any legitimate source report such talks were happening and, until Wednesday, this account was the only ground the rumor had to stand on.

It did not take long for a respected source to chime in on the matter, though, as the Star Tribune's ben Goessling took to his social media account to give us all the truth.

As if there were ever any doubt, no, the Vikings and Rams are not in talks regarding a Matthew Stafford trade.

Now, could the Rams make any other deals? Sure, there's the potential L.A. does, indeed, trade wide receiver Cooper Kupp.

But, even that might not happen because of where the division currently stands.

A Matthew Stafford trade would be a disastrous decision by the Rams

Let's look at the facts, here, for those ever thinking this type of trade would even be possible. The biggest aspect of all of this is the fact that the Rams are well within reach of being in the postseason as we speak.

The NFC West is anyone's game, especially if the Rams were to beat the Vikings on Thursday night. Currently at 2-4, a win puts them at 3-4 which happens to be the exact same record as the San Francisco 49ers. The Seattle Seahawks lead the division at 4-3, therefore that'd be just a single game separating the Rams from first place.

Do we really think Les Snead and Sean McVay are ready to throw in the towel on this season when guys like Kupp and Puka Nacua are getting healthy and the Rams are still far from out of the running? I don't believe, for a second, that this organization would opt to trade Stafford this season.

Sure, we might not know whether or not Stafford wants to play next season. But, let's let the team deal with that situation after this season is over. For right now, the Rams still have a legitimate shot at postseason play, and that should be more than enough to shut down any of those silly Stafford trade rumors.

Stafford isn't going anywhere. And, if you needed verbal confirmation from a source close to the topic at hand, you've gotten exactly that.
