Running Mack Wilson joke just got even funnier for Rams fans

Eventually it will stop being funny, but that day isn't here yet.

It shouldn't surprise anyone who has followed the 2026 NFL offseason to see the Los Angeles Rams ranked atop PFF's projected win total leaderboard. Rams fans also know that doesn't matter. The projected best team wins a projected Super Bowl. Not much to hang your hat on.

All the same, it's difficult to keep a straight face scrolling down to the bottom of the list, where lie the lowly Arizona Cardinals, dead last, 32nd overall, with 4.33 projected wins. That might be generous.

The reason it's so hilarious, aside from the inherent glee in piling on a division rival, is, of course, thanks to the earlier viral remarks of Cardinals linebacker Mack Wilson. Asked for his thoughts on the Rams acquiring Myles Garrett, he treated listeners to a gem:

"S—, they gotta deal with us. At the end of the day, they gotta deal with us."

You have to respect the confidence. For Rams fans, though, his choice of language is the perfectly ridiculous caption for the projected rankings above.

Mack Wilson won't live down Rams comments anytime soon

What was he supposed to say? That his team is doomed and doesn't stand a chance? A middle ground exists...somewhere. The real twist of irony would be if the Rams fell on their faces in either of their games against Arizona.

In Week 6 at home, the Horns are nearly two-touchdown favorites. In Week 10 at Arizona, they are still favored by double digits. Dropping either game would be a massive gaffe L.A. simply cannot afford in a brutal schedule.

By the odds, of course, a Cardinals win is the least and second-least likely event on the Rams' schedule. Arizona is not currently favored in any game this season. The general consensus is that their opponents, not just the Rams, won't have too much trouble dealing with them.

At the end of the day, no one really cares about PFF win projections. Here today, forgotten tomorrow. What Wilson has gifted Rams fans is an automatic reference point every time the two teams end up on opposite ends of the spectrum.

Did it really have to be a player on the worst team in the NFC - the Dolphins might give them a run for their money in the AFC - to say what Wilson said? Really? Really?

Eventually, the joke will lose its ticklish effect. Just don't count on that happening any time before Week 10. You already know Wilson's quote will be clipped and posted next to the final score.
