Sean McVay confirms new L.A. Rams trade candidate not named Cooper Kupp
By Ryan Heckman
The L.A. Rams are right back into the thick of things after last Thursday night's big win over the Minnesota Vikings. At 3-4 and just a half game out of first place in the NFC West, the tune might be changing a bit with this team.
Prior to Week 8, there had been several different rumors in regards to the Rams' potential plans at the NFL trade deadline coming up on November 5. One of the biggest rumors came when wide receiver Cooper Kupp's name was thrown out there as a potential candidate to be moved.
But, with the win over Minnesota and a healthy Kupp, not to mention a healthy Puka Nacua, that all changed. The Rams are far from throwing in the towel on this season, therefore they should not be in the market to sell.
However, early this week, head coach Sean McVay actually took the opposite approach and confirmed the Rams may, indeed, be sellers.
How big of a sale, though? At this point, it would be shocking to see the team trade someone like Kupp. But, McVay did say that the team is officially giving permission to one particular player to seek a trade.
Sean McVay confirmed the Rams are allowing cornerback Tre'Davious White to seek a trade
After seeing himself be a healthy scratch for the past three games, cornerback Tre'Davious White could be on his way out. The Rams brought back Darious Williams from injury and, after his return, that made White the odd man out.
More Rams news:
"We'd like to be able to keep him here, but if that is something that he and his agent want to be able to explore, we're obviously respectfully understanding of that. And so the answer is yes, we've allowed them to be able to talk to some teams to see if that's a possibility," McVay said, via the team's official website.
The former All Pro First Team corner could find himself on a new team in the near future, as there are plenty of teams looking for help in the secondary. And, based on McVay's comments, White has said and done all the right things since being a Ram. That should bode well for some possible trade interest in the coming days.
"With respect to Tre's situation, that is something that, we'll give him an opportunity to see if there's a better situation that he deems appropriate for himself. But we love him here, and if he ends up staying here, I'll certainly be happy about that."
White has played 252 defensive snaps this season, so far, per Pro Football Reference, and allowed an opposing quarterback rating of 138.4. He's also given up a whopping four touchdowns in four games. So, while he is a former All Pro, White has clearly lost a step. We'll see if a trade might reignite something within.
