The Los Angeles Rams have always been on the cutting edge in the NFL. Their instant success after hiring a young Sean McVay started a trend of teams trying to find the next wunderkind, and their bold trades that led to a Super Bowl title made everyone rethink how they evaluated quarterbacks.
They say that the NFL is a copycat league, and more often than not, the Rams are the cat that everyone is copying. This is not to say the Rams have been perfect under his tutelage, but they've endured more success than almost any other franchise since McVay took over.
This phenomenon came up once again in Week 7 of the 2025 season, as the Rams traveled to London, England, to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.
LA coasted to a 35-7 victory, but that's hardly the most compelling dimension of this brutal beatdown.
Sean McVay's unique travel plans may have paid dividens for Rams vs. Jaguars
When a team travels overseas to play a game, it typically gets to its destination as early as possible. Historically, that means they'll travel on Thursday for a Sunday game so that everyone involved can be well-adjusted to the dramatic time change.
Of course, Los Angeles defied conventional wisdom. After a Week 6 bout on the road against the Ravens, McVay and Co. opted to stay in Baltimore. They practiced all week at Camden Yards, home of the MLB's Baltimore Orioles, according to Ari Meirov.
This wouldn't have been atypical if the Rams flew across the pond on Thursday, like most other teams. But McVay and the team chose not to make the flight until Saturday, landing just over 24 hours ahead of the game, and taking off back for the United States immediately after.

That would mean that the Rams spent just over a day in London, smoked the Jaguars, and then headed back. Essentially, they treated this like a typical road trip to the East Coast instead of an international jaunt.
Their incredible success will certainly reverberate around the league, and the Rams can expect other teams to start mimicking them going forward, as they always do. This may be something that only McVay and his team can accomplish, but other teams will have to try to find out.
Thankfully, the Rams has a bye in Week 8, so they can fully rest from whatever jetlag they may be feeling after their trip abroad.
Then, they'll take on the New Orleans Saints in Week 9 with a chance to reach 6-2 near the season's halfway point.
