Sean McVay's lone drafted-quarterback's value may have just skyrocketed

He walked away from football in 2023. But he may be the first to arrive in 2026, as the team just invested in an offensive coach who could unlock his optimal potential.

The Los Angeles Rams have drafted just one quarterback since hiring head coach Sean McVay. Yes, the team signed some rookie quarterbacks after the draft, but the only quarterback to hear his name during the three-day draft event since McVay took over is former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett.

And his stock just skyrocketed after the team hired Kliff Kingsbury to become what is likely the offensive coordinator role on the Rams staff. While you may not have realized it, the move has just created the potential for Bennett's value with LA to skyrocket.

Kingsbury was the genius behind Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray putting up career numbers. Since parting ways with Coach Kingsbury, he has never played the same. Just as a point of reference, Murray stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 208 pounds.

Stetson Bennett stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 192 pounds. In the 2025 preseason, he looked every bit the part of a young quarterback ready for a larger role in this offensive strategy.

Kingsbury may be an indication that the team agrees. Is Stetson Bennett the heir apparent to Matthew Stafford? Hmm.

Bennett has the Matthew Stafford IT factor

While every NFL fan believes that players from their team are valuable, the track record of Stetson Bennett's limited NFL history confirms his true upside. Since returning from what has been described as football burnout, Bennett has shown command and competitiveness in the preseason pocket.

He was the runner-up in passing yards in each of the past two preseasons, despite playing one less game than his peers. But he really stepped into the spotlight in 2025, leading the offense to wins against the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Chargers.

Even with his command of the offense, he remained buried behind MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford and veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. But with Kingsbury on staff, Bennett may be on the cusp of making his ascension on the depth chart.

Since a forgettable rookie season, Bennett has been undefeated in the preseason the past two seasons. And he's not only won games, but he's demonstrated an ability to lead the team in miraculous come-from-behind victories. It's enough to remind fans just how valuable that never-say-die attitude can be in a game.

It's as though Stetson Bennett is channeling his inner Matthew Stafford.

Kingsbury optimized a less-than-stature-esque Murray in his Cardinals offense. He could get similar results with Bennett, who has already shown signs of turning the corner. As it stands now, the former Georgia Bulldogs folk hero is the future of the franchise.

It only makes sense to add the singular offensive coach who can unlock his upside.

As always, thanks for reading.
