After a huge buildup, the Los Angeles Rams distilled 10 draft picks into five rookie selections. No need to worry, as the team continued to sign a smashing number of undrafted collegiate players. But even the addition of 23 rookies has left this team four players shy of the 90=player training camp limit. Still, the team has plenty of options. The key is to know which positions could still be upgraded. +.

Despite adding rookie wide receiver CJ Daniels, NFL analysts appear to be on a quest to link Los Angeles to any veteran wide receiver still rumored to be on the move. That has pushed LA into the discussion for signing free agent WR Stefon Diggs, trade for WR Brian Thomas Jr., or opting to trade for under-the-radar WR Kayshon Boutte.

But receivers are not the only position seemingly light in numbers. The defense boasts just eight cornerbacks, a mysteriously low number in the face of turning over starting roles to two new veterans. Then there is the need to ensure the offensive line, the entire defense, and the special team are adequately staffed for the 2026 season.

Which positions and free agents might the LA Rams address?

Wide receivers

Purely from a numbers perspective, there are valid reasons to project the team shopping for more receivers. From a par level of 14 receivers, the team is riding just 10 wide receivers into training camp. But the team has eight tight ends, so the combination of 18 eligibles may be enough. Still, look for the team to add more help.

Possible additions:

  • Josh Reynolds - While not an A-lister, Reynolds knows the coaching staff, is a seasoned veteran, and still offers a huge target. His best years occurred with the Yellos and Blue, as well as the Detroit Lions. He still has potential, but only in the right offense.
  • Deebo Samuel - The upside of Deebo Samuel is not what it once was. But Samuel continues to thwart defenses with stupendous versatility. He still has magic with a football in his hands. After discovering the grass is not only greener on the other side of the fence, he could be ripe for a new chapter in Horns.
  • Dante Pettis - Former Saints WR Dante Pettis may seem like an odd duck in this list, but he offers physicality and determination. He has extensive special teams experience, and that is enough to get LA interested. While he struggles with a 53.8 percent catch rate, he would benefit tremendously from Rams WR Coach Eric Yarber's patient direction. A low-risk, high-reward option.

Cornerbacks

  • L'Jarius Sneed - Los Angeles has placed the keys of the secondary into the hands of former Kansas City Chiefs starters Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson. And Watson has lobbied for LA to sign free agent L'Jarius Sneed. Sneed was a viable trade option leading into 2024, but he lost a bit without his teammates. He only managed to suit up for 12 games in two seasons for the Tennessee Titans. Still, a one-year prove-it deal at the right price could make a great deal of sense.
  • Tre'Davious White - White struggled in the Horns in 2024, as he struggled to start in a defense that suffered multiple injuries. But after two years with the Baltimore Ravens, he appears to be much healthier. White would not need to start in this defense. He merely needs to be that plug-and-play Plan B option if a starter is injured. And he has the All-Pro experience to draw upon.
  • Jeff Okudah - Bargains can be found in the free agency market. It just takes a team-friendly contract, coaching, patience, and opportunity. Veteran Jeff Okudah is ripe for a rebound. Once a first-round rookie drafted by the Detroit Lions, he has bounced among four different NFL teams in the past four seasons. And his production has regressed with every move. But in LA, he can regroup. focus on performance, and pick his spots to regain his confidence and stellar reputation.

Other positions in need of help

  • Center Matt Lee - Recently released by the Cincinnati Bengals, center Matt Lee offers viable NFL experience to a position that is entirely dependent on IOL Beaux Limmer's ability to show up strong in 2026. If Limmer struggles this season, any injury to undersized veteran Coleman Shelton spells disaster.
  • Offensive lineman Ryan Bates - While an additional depth player, Ryan Bates has experience at playing both guard and tackle in the NFL. It's that versatility that is so very intriguing, as the team has promoted swing tackle Warren McClendon Jr. in 2026. Bates is not a 17-game starter, but he is enough to bridge the gap in case of multiple injuries.
  • Inside linebacker Shaq Thompson - Los Angeles hopes to find better coverage from the inside linebacker role. Right now, Omar Speights is more like run-stuffing thumper, Nate Landman. While the team hopes that second-year Shaun Dolac can deliver in his second season, Shaq Thompson is a viable veteran option. After six seasons performing well for the Carolina Panthers, he struggled from the edge for the Buffalo Bills in 2026. He could be a solid get for the right price.

Nothing is imminent. Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead is comfortable waiting for early OTAs to provide the necessary feedback from coaches as to where to aim for the final free agent signings. Despite the urgency to fill roster spots, LA is in no hurry to fill its roster just yet.

So stay tuned. And thanks for reading.
