The right resolution for Rams Puka Nacua is staring them right in the face

Just like Ringo Starr, Puka Nacua will get by with a little help from his friends.

The mood of how fans and analysts view the relationship between the Los Angeles Rams and their superstar wide receiver Puka Nacua has certainly turned in a new direction in recent weeks. Once a sure-fire player to set an NFL record-setting contract with his first extension, the young man is now whispered to be a liability. Extension talks are on the back burner.

And the team has been placed into a lose-lose situation as a result.

But before speculation and wild what-if scenarios consume all rational thought, let's pause a moment and take a deep breath. Yes, Los Angeles had parted ways with key contributors. But every occasion was a business decision. It was either productivity, affordability, or durability that drove the decision to part ways with a player.

Puka Nacua does not cross any of those thresholds. And head coach Sean McVay has publicly shown amazing support for his player.

There is no Super Bowl on the horizon without Puka Nacua. Nacua is not a paper plate, a plastic fork, or a disposable camera. He is an elite wide receiver who, like everyone, is not perfect. And if the standard for competing in Horns is perfection, LA will soon fall short of ever competing in the post-season.

The team stuck behind quarterback Stetson Bennett against the pleas of fans and the advice of NFL analysts. This is a similar situation.

Fans should see Stetson Bennett as the road map to Puka Nacua's future

Even as the former Brigham Young University receiver has struggled with maturity in recent weeks, the team has too much invested in him to simply cut its losses. And that creates a conundrum for a team that has already claimed to be All-In for 2026. But this is a team that stuck by rookie quarterback Stetson Bennett at a time when no fan was willing to do so.

Even head coach Sean McVay suffered burn out after a disappointing 2022 season.

Let's not pretend here. Everyone slips along the way over the course of their life. But in a world of smartphones, social media, and instant reactions, the trek to navigating young adulthood is treacherous and taxing. It's particularly difficult for young men who find the weight of the world landing on their shoulders.

And Nacua is the engine of this offense.

The path to maturity is not instantaneous. It's a string of life lessons that takes us to the brink of disaster and back again. Compassion and empathy are easier to feel after a person has been in those shoes. Heroism is not a lack of fear. True heroes fear, but act anyway.

Stetson Bennett needed time away from football to reignite his passion for the game. Puka Nacua needs the same level of support. Being a fan is not always about celebrating success. Sometimes, it requires support.

Everyone in the NFL knows the caliber of player in Puka Nacua. Now it's time to show the NFL the quality of fans who cheer for him. Are Rams fans supportive in tough times, or are they simply fair-weather fans? Now is the time for the fans and team to rally around their star offensive weapon.

Stetson Bennett proved he could come back stronger than ever. After his hiatus, Sean McVay did as well. There is no doubt that Nacua will return better than ever. Hopefully, fans will make it all worth his while.

As always, thanks for reading.
