The LA Rams had everything in place for some roster moves, which took place quickly this week. Are more moves on the way? Perhaps. You see, several intriguing players have recently been released, and some have logical links to the Rams. There is the recent development of the Miami Dolphins releasing veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is a free agent, and he was part of the Rams roster that won Super Bowl LVI.
More recently, the Kansas City Chiefs have recently released a running back who everyone insisted was an ideal addition to the Rams offense in the 2020 NFL Draft. Both of whom would not surprise me to land on the team before the playoffs.
But those are speculations. Let's unpack the latest roster moves:
We know that the Rams had long sought to restore TE Tyler Higbee from IR, and they finally did so. That almost certainly means that the triad rotation of tight ends Colby Parkinson, Davis Allen, and Hunter Long will come to an end. But what will replace it?
Well, I don't think that the Rams will make the same mistake as the 49ers did with Dre Greenlaw's debut against the Rams in Week 15. That is to say, the Rams will not overwork him early, and then bench him in the second half.
I expect the rotation will come down to as much as 50 percent of the offensive snaps going to Tyler Higbee. Colby Parkinson, the most effective tight end on the roster to this point in time, will get up to a third. That last portion of snaps is up for grabs. Hunter Long is on an expiring contract, while Davis Allen is a young tight end who has regressed significantly. Will the Rams get tight end production in the final three games? With Tyler Higbee back, it's almost a certainty.
