The Los Angeles Rams released WR Cooper Kupp on March 12, 2025, and put one of the best wide receivers into the 2025 NFL Free Agency market. While the move was long anticipated, there is a difference between looking forward to something happening, and then dealing with it when it happens. Before the Rams released Kupp, there was ample speculation naming more than a dozen teams that should have been interested in signing Kupp.
But as the dawn breaks to March 14, many NFL teams have already fallen out of the race. There were many teams that seemed to have a passive interest, much like neighbors doing a walk-through during an open house when a home on the block goes up for sale. Less about actively shopping, and more about poking their noses in to see what's up.
Per The Athletic's Senior NFL Insider Dianna Russini, the remaining four teams that are still in the competition for Cooper Kupp are the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, and Seattle Seahawks.

But even that list was about to change, rapidly. You see, one of the best strategies in winning auctions is to let most bidders fight it out. When the bidding narrows to one or two bidders, jumping in can catch other interested bidders by surprise.
Per ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, that may have been the Dallas Cowboys strategy all along. After sitting on the sidelines and watching other teams make their best pitch to Cooper Kupp, they finally jump in at the 11th hour and seemingly are willing to make an aggressive push to sign Kupp.
Developing: A sleeper team that has emerged and is now making a push to sign former Rams free-agent wide receiver Cooper Kupp is….the Dallas Cowboys, per league sources.

Kupp’s decision on where to sign could come as early as today. pic.twitter.com/z85bUuHBOi
And then, the confirmation by Dianna Russini. It appears to be coming down to a two-horse race at the end. Curiously, no AFC team was in the mix. The two teams vying for Kupp are both NFC teams. The first is the Seattle Seahawks. The second is the Dallas Cowboys:
Two teams very interested in signing free agent WR Cooper Kupp, according to league sources? The Seahawks and Cowboys.

Kupp is expected to make his decision today. pic.twitter.com/6ai5Czte2B
Well, that all heated up suddenly. And well it should. Kupp has already committed to making a quick decision over which team he will be willing to play for. And it will soon be 48 hours since the LA Rams officially released him.
Why would the Dallas Cowboys suddenly be interested?
The Cowboys' interest makes a lot of sense, because Kupp played very well in both games against the Philadelphia Eagles.
>>> In Week 12: 8 of 11 receptions for 60 yards, 1 TD
>>> In the Divisional Round: 5 of 7 receptions for 61 yards
Since the Cowboys face the Eagles 2X per season, he makes a lot of sense to join their team. But there are more reasons to link Kupp to the Dallas Cowboys. The Dallas Cowboys hired Junior Adams as the team's WR coach. It just so happens that Coach Adams coached Kupp at Eastern Washington.
The Cowboys are expected to sign Oregon co-offensive coordinator/WRs coach Junior Adams as their new WRs coach, according to a source. Second college coach to join staff with K-State's Conor Riley coming on board as OL coach.

So, is it all a done deal? Not quite yet. But Adam Schefter seems to be alluding to the Cowboys and Kupp working on a deal early in the morning of March 14, 2025. To be fair, this is the hottest update linking Cooper Kupp to a specific team.
And so overnight, the Cowboys stuck a deal with former Eagles and Panthers RB Miles Sanders, and are working on one with former Rams WR Cooper Kupp. https://t.co/kHMhN7xh4d

While we are not calling it as Kupp to the Cowboys, it certainly seems as though all indications are that Kupp has made his decision. If Kupp does sign with the Dallas Cowboys, it will not be as positive for the Rams as if he were signing with an AFC team. But the Rams will only face him once every three years (or more if both teams finish in the same spot in their respective divisions).
Still not convinced Kupp is willing to sign with the Cowboys? Check this out:

Cooper’s father Craig Kupp was Troy Aikman’s backup for the Cowboys in 1991 AND Cooper’s grandfather Jacob Kupp was a guard for his first 2 seasons with the Cowboys…

If that doesn't seem like Karma to you, I'm not sure anything will. But wait... there's more.
While the Cowboys made what one source described as “a push” for Cooper Kupp, they still are not considered the likely landing spot for the former Rams wide receiver, per source.
