St. Louis Rams Re-Sign Tim Barnes?

The St. Louis Rams addressed the offensive line on Monday, but not in the way that some might have expected or wanted. The St. Louis Rams have agreed to terms on a new deal with center Tim Barnes.

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Barnes who also visited the Kansas City Chiefs, is expected to sign the one-year, $1 million deal to come back with the Rams on Tuesday.

Given the Rams’ need on the offensive line it makes sense that the Rams bring back the center who’s been with the team since 2011. Barnes gives the team depth at both center and guard, and could compete for a starting position, although that wouldnt be ideal.

Barnes played significant time in 2013 subbing in for Scott Wells after he was injured. Barnes played in 272 snaps while putting up a -1.3 grade on Pro Football Focus and allowing one sack, two quarterback hits, and three quarterback hurries.

As mentioned above, Barnes gives the Rams good depth that isn’t just Barrett Jones and Demetrius  Rhaney, however he still is not a good starting option. The Rams must find somebody in the draft sign Wisniewski in free agency to give them a solid option at center.

The Rams have a problem with their offensive line and the signing of Barnes only helps the depth portion of that. It is a good signing as Barnes is familiar with the personnel and system, but if Les Snead and Jeff Fisher expect him to start, they have another thing coming. This is certainly just one of a handful of moves that the Rams will use to address the offensive line this offseason, the only question is what will they do next?
